You make a great point that I agree with, but let me play the devil's advocate for a moment just because I enjoy a good discussion about Jesus :-). In Luke 5:4, Jesus tells Simon (Good ol' Pete to you and me) to go into deeper water an then to drop the nets. Peter responds that they had been working all night and hadn't caught anything, but because Jesus asked, he does so anyway.

Peter then proceeds to catch so many fish that it almost splits the net. I always liked this passage because it shows that Jesus was trying to help a brotha' out on the income front. Of course, he eventually completely talks him out of that profession, but that's a discussion for another day.

It's almost like Jesus wants him to prosper so he can be of service in other ways... Ah well, food for thought.
