This is an interesting take, thank you! I believe that Ford will certainly bring some expertise to the table that Tesla has not yet mastered, particularly with regards to manufacturing skill, quality control, and engineering process.
But Ford's biggest enemy will be the inherent culture intrinsic to having a staid, 118 year old company in the first place. Fear and failure to innovate is a curse for any company, and let's face it, if Ford or GM had the intestinal fortitude, they would have built out their own supercharger networks decades ago- let's not forget that old-guard Detroit was selling a fully functioning electric vehicle in 1990 (the EV-1) and could have had a 17 year head-start on Tesla. Yes, it was GM and not Ford, but they are not so far apart.
So long as Ford has to answer to that quarterly earnings judge and isn’t given the same leeway to invest in product (like what patient venture capitalists give startups), Ford will never innovate as well as Tesla does (which doesn't mean there won't be other companies that won't).
I do think Tesla will eventually be in trouble, but I don't think Ford will be their biggest threats. I believe their biggest threats will come from Asia- in no particular order, the Chinese and the South Koreans.
