Tearing down that myth is a vital piece to progressing. A person of Welsh descent can have more in common genetically with someone born in Morocco than they might with someone born in Germany, for example. As recently as 9000BC, the people in England had dark skin (see Cheddar Man).
I'm not saying it's the only thing that needs to change in order to eradicate racism. I'm saying that we've got to pursue the historical argument as well.
To say someone is a different race because they look differently is flawed when what makes up how someone "looks" is largely a historical evolutionary adaptation.
