Thank you for this article; it brings back memories. Humorous anecdote:
My (American) parents owned a home in Mo' Bay in the 80s (in the Mango Walk neighborhood).
My parents had some really amazing (lifelong) Jamaican friends and neighbors, and on one visit there (during Reggae Sunsplash; I must have been about 21), my mother and my mother's friend somehow arranged for me to be taken out on the town by my mother's friend's daughter, who was about my age. So my thinking going in was, "You don't mess where you eat", so no matter what, I was going to be on my best behaviour. Don't you know this pretty young lady took me to a dancehall in Mo' Bay that no tourist would ever know about. She proceeded to "Wind" me all over the dance floor. It took all of my self-control to not be in full salute on the dance floor. To make matters worse, it seemed like the more I tried to behave myself, the more she tried to make me misbehave!
The evening finally ended and thankfully I was a gentleman throughout, but that was one very cold shower at the end of the night.
