I moved to Texas in 1994 from Toronto and it's my adopted home, and I'm not the least bit offended by your article. Different strokes for different folks and I'm okay with that; I found San Diego a bit disappointing, but I made the mistake of visiting in June, when the daytime temperature was in the high 50s.
You are wrong about it being completely flat though. Check out Big Bend National Park. It's waaay out in the middle of nowhere, and happens to be the only National Park that has a self-contained mountain range. With that being said, it's stunning, and while it might not change your mind about Texas, it's at least a pretty cool thing to do when you have a 3 or 4 day weekend.
