I have no idea whether the shroud is real or not- it is immaterial to my faith. I would like to note though that my biggest doubts surrounding its authenticity are rooted in the image itself- if you place a cloth over a mannequin head that has paint on it and lift the cloth, the 2d image of their face looks distorted in width compared to the actual face on the mannequin, much like what happens when you project the image of a 3D globe onto a 2D map. The Shroud of Turin does not capture this distortion. There may be a reasonable explanation for this, but I am no longer as versed on the subject as I once was.
