I didn't attend a seminary so forgive me if this question is asked naively, but I've wondered about the forgiveness of Judas as well. I won't pollute your article with the nuances, but the Bible states something along the lines of "It would be better if he were not born", but he obviously felt some measure of regret for his actions, as he tried to return the silver to the priests once the awful deed was done.
