I completely understand this. But it doesn't just hurt if you're one of Abraham's progeny. Speaking for myself, who's gentile (but who is so mixed up it's quite possible there's some Abrahamic seed in there), it hurts contemplating the level of inhumanity that can invoke that kind of suffering. Much like it hurt when the Rwandan civil war happened 20 years ago, or the Balkan wars.

I nevertheless try to force myself to not turn away; we must remember so that we never forget.
