However obvious this is and should have been to me, I guess I never considered the cost advantages of faster code. I've always been a stickler for fast code (when I started in DOS, we needed every CPU cycle we can get, and I still have a hard copy of Michael Abrash's Zen of Assembly Language), but this just drives home why it's needed more than ever.
