Evil Practical Jokes A Programmer Can Play On Mortal Humans, Ch 1

Can you imagine if the programmers from Otis, ThyssenKrupp, Kone and all the other elevator companies put some code in their industrial control software that actually slowed the elevator down by a factor of two each time someone pushed an already activated call button?

It borders on being a bit too clandestine, however. In a perfect world you’d want the mark to know that the elevator was moving slower without making it so obvious that you got yourself into trouble. Maybe you could couple the floor indicator light with an audible indicator that lowered its pitch when it slowed down, so it would sound a lot like the Wheel of Fortune wheel on its last couple of ticks before stopping.

If you were especially wicked, you’d slow it down even more once they reached their destination floor, making sure you took an especially long time to open the doors; perhaps a 10 second delay before finally opening the doors (slowly of course).
