Divorce is tough man. You go from loving someone (or the thought of someone in some cases) and believing in your heart that they're "the one", only to have to face a kind of self-reckoning. After that process stumbles to completion, you're stuck with all kinds of feelings that you're not sure what to do with. You might actually love members of her family (and almost certainly have some level of love for her), but for me anyway, I felt that both for her healing and my healing, I had to close those doors. It's like the person dies in a way, only they're still living, just inaccessible to you.
