Agreed. When I started programming, the terminals were either amber or green on black. I spent quite a bit of time looking at dark screens, such that when editors and IDEs started using lighter backgrounds, it was a nice change. I've tried to 'revisit' dark, but find that my eyes aren't what they used to be, and I see better when it's a lighter background.
